Thiago Silva has said that he is "super relaxed" when it comes to his Chelsea future, with the centre-back not forcing a decision when it comes to his plans beyond the end of the campaign.

The 39-year-old's contract at Stamford Bridge is due to expire at the end of June, and there have been suggestions that he could return to Brazil.

A fresh deal at Chelsea has not yet been ruled out, as he has again been an important player for the Blues during the 2023-24 campaign, making 24 appearances in all competitions, scoring twice.

Silva played the full 90 minutes of Tuesday's 6-1 win over Middlesbrough, with Mauricio Pochettino's side thumping the Championship outfit in the second leg of their EFL Cup semi-final.

The Brazilian will therefore have the chance to play for some silverware this season, and the experienced defender has said that he is simply enjoying himself and not looking too far ahead.

"I don't have anything scheduled for later. There's nothing scheduled here. I'm just looking to have fun. We know [my career] is almost over, but it's not the end yet, so pick the right time," the London Evening Standard quotes him as saying.

"I'm still able to maintain a good performance. My numbers are good. This gives me peace of mind to continue. Now, the future belongs to God.

"Let's finish well here, this and those four months and see what has to happen going forward. But I'm super relaxed about that.

"[My relationship with the Chelsea fans] is a source of great pride. In such a short time I managed to conquer them in such a passionate way. We can say that, right?

"It was very, very fast and I am happy every time I play here. It's different and special and emotional. I know that with each game that ends I have a feeling that it's ending, so that makes me a little sad. But happy with the performance on the field, which is the most important.

"Now we have another final at Wembley. If I'm not mistaken, the three times I went there, I lost all three. So, I think it is time to win, right?"

Silva made the move to Chelsea in 2020 after leaving Paris Saint-Germain, and he has represented the Blues on 141 occasions, scoring seven goals and registering four assists in the process.

The South American has won the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup during his time at Stamford Bridge.

Silva is not believed to be planning for retirement, with the experienced defender confident that he can play into his 40s. body check tags ::
