Nicolas Anelka has revealed that he turned down a return to Paris Saint-Germain before his move to Chinese Super League side Shanghai Shenhua.
The 32-year-old, who had two previous spells with the French side, left Chelsea last month after a limited number of first-team opportunities under Andre Villas-Boas.
"I was contacted by an intermediary of Qatar Investment Authority," he told French television station Canal+. "I did not want to go to PSG because I had already played there.
"I know the French mentality. The people there would have worn me out. It did not interest me.
"Shanghai is Asia's New York. I love the way they live. I often come here on vacation. This is my last contract."
Anelka has also played for Arsenal, Real Madrid and Liverpool during his 16-year professional career.
