Atletico Madrid 'lining up summer move for Marcos Alonso'

Atletico Madrid are reportedly determined to sign Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso during this summer's transfer window.

The 31-year-old has been an important player for the Blues during the 2021-22 campaign, making 27 appearances in all competitions, contributing one goal and three assists in the process.

Alonso had been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge earlier this season, but he will not be allowed to leave in January following Ben Chilwell's campaign-ending knee operation.

The Spain international is in the final 18 months of his contract with Chelsea, though, and there have been suggestions that he could be on the move this summer.

According to Marca, Atletico boss Diego Simeone views Alonso as a leading target, with the Argentine determined to sign a new left-sided wing-back ahead of next season.

Alonso, who started his professional career with Real Madrid, has scored 25 times and registered 20 assists in 193 appearances for Chelsea in all competitions.
