Tiemoue Bakayoko's proposed move to Napoli on a permanent basis would not depend on Gennaro Gattuso's future at the club, according to the player's agent.
Gattuso's existing deal in Naples will run out at the end of the season, and amid drama behind the scenes, there is talk of the former AC Milan midfield lynchpin being relieved of his duties if he cannot steer Napoli to a top-four finish.
Bakayoko has enjoyed regular game time under Gattuso and is believed to be eyeing a permanent move to the club from Chelsea, but his agent and brother Abdoulaye Bakayoko insists that his client's future will not hinge on who is in the hot seat at the Partenopei.
Speaking to Radio Marte, Abdoulaye Bakayoko said: "His future is not tied to that of the coach. There is a strong bond with the coach, but when the discussions are held with the club to stay at Napoli, then we'll see.
"The focus right now is to see out the season in the best possible way. There are no appointments planned with the club to discuss it. Whether he remains at Napoli or not, that will not depend on Gattuso. He is happy here; it's a big club with a great history."
The 26-year-old has made 35 appearances across all competitions for Gattuso's side this season, chipping in with one goal and two assists, and his contract at Chelsea is due to expire at the end of next season. body check tags ::
