National League Wealdstone will look to spring a surprise when they welcome League One Wycombe Wanderers for Saturday's FA Cup second-round tie.

The hosts beat League Two Grimsby Town in the first round, while the Chairboys saw off York City to get their FA Cup journey up and running.

Match preview

As a National League side, Wealdstone have had to negotiate a couple of ties to reach the second round of the FA Cup.

They began their FA Cup campaign with a commanding win over seventh-tier Gosport Borough in the final qualifying round, before they pulled off an upset to eliminate Grimsby in the first round proper.

The tie appeared to be heading to extra time until Alex Reid netted a 90th-minute winner to seal a dramatic 1-0 victory at Blundell Park, ensuring that Wealdstone will be one of nine non-league teams to feature in round two.

Matt Taylor's side will carry some momentum into Saturday's fixture, having put together a four-game unbeaten run in all competitions (W3, D1).

They also won four of their previous six competitive home games, including a 2-0 league victory against Rochdale in their most recent outing at Grosvenor Vale.

Wycombe will enter Saturday's FA Cup tie as the League One leaders after winning 12, drawing two and losing two of their 16 league matches this season.

The Chairboys maintained their four-point lead at the top of the table with a dramatic victory over Mansfield Town in midweek, with Luke Leahy netting a 93rd-minute winner to snatch all three points.

As a result of that narrow 1-0 win, Matt Bloomfield's side have now won their last 10 matches in a 12-game unbeaten run which stretches back to September when they lost to Aston Villa in the EFL Cup.

Wycombe claimed one of those 10 straight victories in the FA Cup first round, recording a 3-2 home win over National League York City thanks to a Leahy brace and a Gideon Kodua.

The Chairboys will now be preparing for another meeting with fifth-tier opposition, and they will certainly fancy their chances of reaching the third round for the first time since 2020-21, having won seven of their previous nine competitive away games (D2).

Team News

Taylor recently revealed that Sean Adarkwa is expected to be out of action for months after he picked up an injury in the win over Rochdale earlier this month.

Adrian Mariappa will wear the captain's armband, with the experienced defender set to feature in a back three with Jaydn Mundle-Smith and Jack Cook.

At the opposite end of the pitch, Reid and Sam Ashford will offer Wealdstone's main goal threats, having scored 10 competitive goals between them this season.

As for the visitors, they are unable to call upon the services of Josh Scowen, Kieran Sadlier and Kodua due to injury.

Bloomfield has confirmed that Sam Vokes is back working on the grass, but the forward will not be ready for Saturday's cup tie.

The Wycombe boss is hopeful that midfielder Tyreeq Bakinson can prove his fitness in time for the weekend after missing the last four matches with an injury issue.

Wealdstone possible starting lineup:
Adams; Mundle-Smith, Mariappa, Cook; Boldewijn, Wells-Morrison, Kretzschmar, Cesay, Georgiou; Ashford, Reid

Wycombe Wanderers possible starting lineup:
George; Grimmer, Low, Tayler, Harvie; Butcher, Morley; Wheeler, Humphreys, Lubala; Udoh

We say: Wealdstone 1-3 Wycombe Wanderers

Bloomfield is likely to rotate his side for Saturday's cup tie, but his team should still have enough quality to get the better of National League Wealdstone to claim an 11th consecutive victory in all competitions.
