Bayern Munich reportedly held an interest in securing a loan deal for Chelsea winger Mykhaylo Mudryk in January.
With the club's dominance in the Bundesliga being put under threat by Bayer Leverkusen, Thomas Tuchel was able to act in the recent transfer window.
Sacha Boey, Eric Dier and Bryan Zaragoza were all brought to the Allianz Arena in a bid to help topple Xabi Alonso's all-conquering side.
On Saturday evening, Bayern suffered a 3-0 defeat to their rivals for the title, slipping five points adrift even though they have scored four goals more than Leverkusen in the league this season.
Nevertheless, while Zaragoza was acquired to eventually add more quality in the final third, it appears that Bayern briefly had another attack-minded player in mind.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Bayern were open to negotiating a loan for Mudryk before close of business for the remainder of the season.
Romano adds that, while it soon became apparent that a deal was not plausible, it was an option that was briefly discussed.
Chelsea allegedly had no intention of allowing Mudryk to depart Stamford Bridge at this stage of the season, even though it would have come with benefits for all parties.
The 23-year-old has been limited to 12 starts and 13 substitute outings in all competitions during 2023-24, contributing four goals and two assists.
Mudryk recently provided the assist for Thiago Silva's consolation goal in a 4-2 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers on February 4, but he has not featured in the two games since that match.
In his absence, Chelsea have recorded 3-1 victories away at Aston Villa and Crystal Palace respectively, the Ukraine international now finding himself down the pecking order.
With the player possessing a contract until the end of 2030-31, there appears little prospect of Chelsea parting ways with Mudryk in the foreseeable future.
Bayern are also unlikely to approach the situation in the future with Zaragoza having cost in the region of €19m, a combination of a €4m loan fee and a €15m fee to follow when a permanent transfer from Granada is finalised in the summer. body check tags ::
