Chelsea and Liverpool are reportedly set to go head to head for RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner.
The 23-year-old has been in impressive form at club level during the 2019-20 campaign, scoring 25 times and contributing 10 assists in 26 appearances in all competitions.
Chelsea are thought to have identified the Germany international as the ideal signing in the final third of the field, but according to The Mirror, Liverpool are also determined to sign him.
The report claims that while Frank Lampard's side want to complete a deal during the January transfer window, the Premier League leaders would prefer to wait until the end of the current season.
Werner, who has also previously been linked with Manchester United, has managed 20 goals in 18 Bundesliga appearances during the 2019-20 campaign.
In total, the centre-forward has found the back of the net on 86 occasions in 140 outings for his current club since arriving from Stuttgart in the summer of 2016.
