Chelsea are thought to be weighing up a move for Benfica midfielder Julian Weigl.

The 25-year-old only joined the Primeira Liga giants from Borussia Dortmund in 2020, but he has become a staple of their setup with 43 appearances in all competitions during the 2020-21 campaign.

Weigl penned a deal with Benfica until 2024 upon his arrival, but his consistent performances in the middle of the park have reportedly attracted the attention of his compatriot Thomas Tuchel.

According to O Jogo, Chelsea have already made approaches over a possible move for Weigl, with Tuchel keen to bolster his midfield ranks for the new season.

West Ham United lynchpin Declan Rice is still expected to be the Blues' priority for the upcoming window, though a bid for Weigl could reportedly be on the cards if the Hammers' asking price for Rice proves too expensive.

Weigl made 171 appearances for Dortmund in a five-year spell before signing for Benfica, and he has also earned five caps for the German national team.
