Chelsea are reportedly 'putting the final touches' on a move for RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner.
The 24-year-old has been in excellent form for his Bundesliga club during the 2019-20 campaign, scoring 31 times and registering 13 assists in 42 appearances in all competitions.
Liverpool were long thought to be the favourites for the Germany international, but Chelsea have since moved to the head of the queue for the striker, who has a £53m release clause in his current deal.
According to The Telegraph, the Blues are now 'in advanced talks' with Leipzig over the structure of the transfer, and there is a belief that an announcement will soon be made.
Tammy Abraham has scored 13 Premier League goals for Frank Lampard's side this season, but Olivier Giroud and Michy Batshuayi have struggled to contribute during the 2019-20 campaign and could both seek pastures new during this summer's transfer window.
Chelsea - currently fourth in the Premier League table - will resume their season against relegation-threatened Aston Villa on June 21.
