Tottenham Hotspur confirm that Timo Werner will stay at the club on loan from RB Leipzig for the 2024-25 season, and they have allegedly agreed to include a fresh option-to-buy clause.

Tottenham Hotspur have announced that Timo Werner will stay at the club on loan from RB Leipzig for the 2024-25 season.

The 28-year-old joined Spurs on an initial loan deal during the January transfer window and became a first-team regular under manager Ange Postecoglou during the second half of the season.

Werner started 11 of his 14 appearances for Spurs across the Premier League and FA Cup, contributing with two goals and three assists.

The former Chelsea attacker fell out of favour at Leipzig which led to his decision to leave the Bundesliga and join Spurs in search of regular game time in a bid to boost his chances of representing Germany at Euro 2024.

Despite making a positive impact in North London, Werner was recently left out of Julian Nagelsmann's preliminary squad ahead of this summer's tournament in his homeland.

Nevertheless, Werner has enjoyed his brief stint at Tottenham and admitted last month that he would be open to extending his stay at the club.

Werner looking forward to another "incredible season" at Spurs

Postecoglou, meanwhile, recently labelled Werner as an "important signing" and claimed that a decision over the attacker's future would be made "at the appropriate time".

Just over a week on from Spurs' final Premier League game of the season, the club have now confirmed that Werner has re-joined on loan from Leipzig, with an option to make the deal permanent.

Multiple reports, including one from BBC Sport, claim that Tottenham's initial loan agreement included an option to buy for around £15m.

However, it is now understood that Werner's fresh loan move includes a new buy option worth just £8.5m which can be activated in the summer of 2025.

Following Tottenham's announcement of the deal, Werner has taken to Instagram to express his delight, posting: "Happy to be at Spurs next year! Looking forward to see you all in the stadium for an incredible season."

On a separate post from Spurs' official account, Werner added: "I see how good the club is, how good we are as a team and my perspective in the team. The players are all very kind, so that made it easy for me. I feel very good here. I like it a lot."

Werner becomes Tottenham's second official signing ahead of the 2024-25 campaign after Swedish starlet Lucas Bergvall, who agreed a summer switch to North London from Djurgardens back in February. body check tags ::
