Liverpool and Chelsea are reportedly considering whether to up their interest in Celta Vigo midfielder Gabri Veiga.

After disappointing Premier League campaigns in their own right, the Merseyside and West London giants are in the market for new midfielders this summer.

Liverpool have already made a significant addition, securing a deal for Brighton & Hove Albion's Alexis Mac Allister for a fee in the region of £35m.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are currently in the process of overseeing a number of exits in order to facilitate the signing of Moises Caicedo, also from the Seagulls.

However, each of the aforementioned clubs have been credited as admirers of Veiga in the past as they look to both the present and future.

The versatile playmaker has just enjoyed an excellent 2022-23 campaign, chipping in with 11 goals and four assists from 36 outings in La Liga.

Nevertheless, there is an acceptance at the Spanish outfit that their most prized asset may depart the club over the coming weeks, a consequence of the 21-year-old's release clause.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool and Chelsea have already formally enquired about that option, said to be set in the region of £34m.

As it stands, it is claimed that neither club have presented Celta Vigo with a formal proposal as they contemplate whether to remain in the race for Veiga's signature.

Nevertheless, Chelsea officials have allegedly asked if there is any scope to negotiate the final fee or if Celta Vigo are open to different payment structures.

With three years left on the Spain Under-21 international's contract, Celta Vigo may insist on accepting such a fee in full, particularly when other teams are monitoring the situation.

Real Madrid and Newcastle United have been linked with Veiga in the past, the former's boss Carlo Ancelotti publicly acknowledging the player's qualities.

Meanwhile, Newcastle manager Eddie Howe has shown a preference for signing players who can play more than one position, with Veiga capable of playing in central midfield, in a creative role behind the striker and as a false nine. body check tags ::
