Chelsea are reportedly lining up a third bid for Everton defender John Stones.
The Premier League champions have been linked with the centre-back throughout the summer and have seen two bids rejected by the Toffees this month.
Manchester United and City have both been mentioned in connection with the ex-Barnsley youngster, but after failing with reported bids of £20m and £25m, Chelsea believe that an improved offer will see Everton do business.
The Telegraph claims that private talks between chairmen Bruce Buck and Bill Kenwright have taken place in an attempt to avoid a public courting of the England international, as the champions attempt to soothe Everton's anger over the pursuit of Stones.
Chelsea begin their Premier League title defence against Swansea City next month.
