Eden Hazard needs a "kick up the arse" before representing Belgium in the World Cup, according to Marc Degryse.
Despite a glowing season for Chelsea in the individual stakes last term, the Young Player of the Year came in for some criticism from manager Jose Mourinho over a perceived lack of defensive work.
With the World Cup creeping nearer, Degryse - who enjoyed a 12-year Belgium career - has told coach Marc Wilmots to consider dropping Hazard if his work ethic does not improve.
"He has to work harder defensively," the 48-year-old is quoted as saying by the Daily Mail.
"Against Sweden he switched off several times, just like he did in the Champions League for Chelsea against Atletico Madrid.
"If that doesn't change Wilmots will have to resolve it by dropping him. Hazard is the type of player that sometimes needs a kick up the arse."
Belgium will compete in Group H alongside Algeria, South Korea and Russia.
