A special edition of the Copa America will be held in the USA in 2016 to celebrate the competition's centenary year.
Ten CONMEBOL teams will be joined by six CONCACAF nations in what will be known as the Copa America Centenario.
The USA and Mexico will automatically qualify for the tournament, while the four highest-placed countries at the 2015 Gold Cup will also take part.
"In July of 2016, CONMEBOL will celebrate its first century. Because of this, with the aim to celebrate it with the pomp it deserves, the association presidents and members of the Executive Committee have decided to hold a tournament with nations throughout the Americas," read a statement from the South American federation.
It has also been confirmed that the 2015 tournament will go ahead as scheduled.
