Costa Rica have clinched a place in the quarter-finals of the CONCACAF Gold Cup after playing out a goalless draw with Group C rivals Canada.
Canada started the brighter of the two sides, but they wasted a promising early chance when Julian de Guzman fired wide after being gifted space on the edge of the box.
After soaking up pressure in the opening minutes, Costa Rica started to look more dangerous going forward and they threatened when David Ramirez sent a powerful strike wide of the target.
Kenny Stamatopoulos then came to Canada's rescue moments before the break with an impressive save to keep out a low effort from Bryan Ruiz.
The Canadian shot-stopper was involved once again early in the second half as he pushed away another strike after Cristian Gamboa had turned into space inside the box, before getting a strong hand to a curling effort from Johan Venegas.
It was Canada who applied most of the pressure in the second half as they went in search of the victory which could have kept their qualification hopes alive, but Costa Rica's defence held firm as they clinched the runners-up spot behind group winners Jamaica.
