Sports Mole provides score predictions and previews for all of today's League One fixtures, including Reading vs. Huddersfield Town.
Sports Mole

Crawley vs. Bolton (Saturday, 12.30pm)

Crawley Town welcome Bolton Wanderers in League One on Saturday, and while both sides will be hoping to give their season a much-needed shot in the arm, the hosts will be reeling from the news that manager Scott Lindsey has left the club to join MK Dons.

Bolton meanwhile were eliminated from the EFL Cup in midweek following a heavy defeat against Arsenal, and they are yet to get their season up and running after a disappointing start to the campaign.

We say: Crawley Town 1-2 Bolton Wanderers

With little to separate these two sides heading into Saturday's game, the knock-on effect of Crawley losing their manager could just swing this game narrowly in the favour of Bolton, but given the recent defensive frailties of the visitors, it would be a surprise if they kept a clean sheet on the road this weekend.

Reading vs. Huddersfield (Saturday, 12.30pm)

Both aiming to bounce back from consecutive defeats, Reading and Huddersfield Town will meet at the Select Car Leasing Stadium on Saturday.

The visitors have dropped to fifth spot in the League One table after their fast start to the season, while their visitors sit 17th following a 5-2 beating last weekend.

We say: Reading 1-1 Huddersfield Town

With both teams fighting to get back to winning ways, we expect a competitive encounter on Saturday and cannot quite pick a winner, instead backing Reading to take a point from a Huddersfield side who are not yet at their best under Michael Duff.

Birmingham vs. Peterborough (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Striving to extend their unbeaten record at the start of the league campaign to seven matches, title favourites Birmingham City will welcome playoff-chasing Peterborough United to St Andrew's @ Knighthead Park in League One on Saturday afternoon.

Blues have passed two stern third-tier tests with flying colours since returning from the international break, whilst Posh are building positive momentum following a difficult pair of matches at the beginning of their competitive schedule.

We say: Birmingham City 2-1 Peterborough United

Scoring five goals across their last two matches, Peterborough should pose a significant threat on the counter at St Andrew's this weekend.

Birmingham could have to deal with a setback if Poku is on form for Posh, although we believe that Blues will narrowly earn their sixth straight league victory in the end.

Blackpool vs. Burton Albion (Saturday, 3.00pm)

The Steve Bruce era is firmly up and running on the seaside, as he looks to continue his fine start as Blackpool boss on Saturday when his side welcome Burton Albion to Bloomfield Road in League One.

The visitors meanwhile have endured a miserable start to the season as they are winless from their opening six games, with four draws and two defeats seeing them languishing in 22nd in the table.

We say: Blackpool 2-0 Burton Albion

It is hard to look beyond a Blackpool side that is revitalised under their new manager, and the fact they will be playing on home soil against a side that is low on confidence means that this game represents a great opportunity to not only win but to also keep a clean sheet in the process.

Bristol Rovers vs. Wycombe (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Bristol Rovers will attempt to end a run of three consecutive defeats when they welcome Wycombe Wanderers to the Memorial Stadium on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the Chairboys are set to return to League One action after falling short in their midweek EFL Cup tie against Aston Villa.

We say: Bristol Rovers 1-2 Wycombe Wanderers

Wycombe have won each of their previous five games against Bristol Rovers, including a 2-1 win in last season's away fixture, and we think they will continue that run against a team that has lost each of their last three league matches.

Cambridge vs. Lincoln (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Rock-bottom Cambridge United will be looking for their first win of the season on Saturday when they welcome Lincoln City to Cledara Abbey Stadium in League One.

The visitors meanwhile have enjoyed a solid start to their campaign, and they come into this game on a four-match unbeaten run in the league.

We say: Cambridge United 1-2 Lincoln City

It has been a tough start to the season for Cambridge and we do not expect that to change on Saturday when Lincoln visit, but their last three defeats have only been by one goal, so this could be a tougher assignment for Lincoln than it initially appears on paper.

Leyton Orient vs. Wrexham (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Wrexham will attempt to claim a second straight victory when they travel to Brisbane Road for Saturday's away meeting with Leyton Orient.

The Red Dragons are sitting top of League One with 16 points, while the hosts are in 16th place after collecting seven points from as many games.

We say: Leyton Orient 1-3 Wrexham

Leyton Orient may be unbeaten in three league matches, but they have lost two of their three home games in the third tier this season.

With the O's struggling to produce their best form on home turf, we think that Wrexham will take full advantage to claim their sixth league victory of the season.

Northampton vs. Mansfield (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Two League One teams looking to win back-to-back games will lock horns on Saturday afternoon as Northampton Town play host to Mansfield Town at Sixfields Stadium.

The Cobblers and the Stags meet for the first time since March 2023 when the former claimed a narrow 1-0 home win over the latter in League Two.

We say: Northampton Town 2-2 Mansfield Town

Each of Mansfield's last ten league matches have seen both teams find the net and a total of 35 goals scored, so another end-to-end contest could be on the cards this weekend.

Mansfield will be regarded as slight favourites for this match despite their poor away run, but we can see Northampton following up their impressive win at Huddersfield with another positive result on home soil, claiming at least a share of the spoils in this one.

Shrewsbury vs. Rotherham (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Both sat in the bottom four of the League One table in the midst of three-match winless streaks, Shrewsbury Town and Rotherham United will square off at New Meadow on Saturday.

Both teams' only third-tier victories thus far came in the weekend before the September international break, with the hosts having since suffered three straight losses while their visitors suffered a third league defeat of the season at home to Birmingham City last weekend.

We say: Shrewsbury Town 1-2 Rotherham United

Rotherham United certainly have more quality than their start to the season suggests, and they should fancy themselves to kickstart an improved run against a Shrewsbury Town side lacking any confidence of their own.

Stevenage vs. Charlton (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Charlton Athletic make the relatively short trip to Hertfordshire to face Stevenage at the Lamex Stadium in League One on Saturday.

It is not unfair to say that this is certainly not one of the most-anticipated fixtures of the weekend, and no teams in the division have seen fewer goals in their matches so far this season than these two.

We say: Stevenage 0-1 Charlton Athletic

The stats do not lie, and it is unlikely we will get a thriller between two teams who have scored just 12 goals between them across 14 league games this season.

Nothing could separate the sides last season in two stalemates, but Charlton have made a strong start, and a fourth 1-0 win of the campaign could be forthcoming.

Wigan vs. Exeter (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Wigan Athletic and Exeter City square off on Saturday afternoon looking to make inroads in their efforts to move closer to the League One playoff places.

As it stands, they head into this encounter sitting in 14th and 12th position in the standings respectively.

We say: Wigan Athletic 1-1 Exeter City

Despite their inconsistencies, both teams will be satisfied with their form heading into this contest. Taking that into consideration, we feel that they could play out a draw in the North-West to keep things ticking over.

Barnsley vs. Stockport (Saturday, 7.45pm)

Barnsley will attempt to claim a second straight victory when they welcome Stockport County to Oakwell for Saturday's League One contest.

The hosts are currently in third place with 13 points to their name, while the visitors are two points further back in seventh position.

We say: Barnsley 1-1 Stockport County

Barnsley have won just one of their three home league games this season (D1, L1), and we think that they could experience more frustration by being held to a draw by a Stockport side that have drawn their last two away matches.
