Steve Davis has revealed his shock after his Crewe Alexandra side fell to a 1-0 defeat to Stevenage this evening.
Francois Zoko grabbed the only goal with just five minutes played and Crewe were unable to hit back, despite Chuks Aneke hitting the post with a header from six yards.
Davis, however, feels that his players did enough to get something from the game, even though they lacked a cutting edge.
"I am amazed we didn't get something, but you don't get points from keeping the ball. We had the chances and in the second half we camped in their end but we couldn't seem to get the breakthrough," Davis told the Crewe Chronicle.
"I thought we played well but we have come away with nothing. The front four worked hard but lacked quality.
"I think if we'd have got the equaliser we'd have gone on and got the second and third. They were very stubborn, it was like an attack versus defence training session at times, but it boils down to putting the ball in the net and we didn't do it."
Crewe are 20th in the League One table, two points clear of the relegation zone.
