Crystal Palace manager Dougie Freedman has heaped praise upon his players after they defeated Premier League side Wigan Athletic in the Carling Cup at Selhurst Park yesterday evening.
Darren Ambrose and 17-year-old Jonathan Williams put the Eagles two goals up before the break, with visiting Wigan pulling a late goal back through midfielder Ben Watson.
"I'm very pleased with the performance of the lads. It was mixed team tonight with a few youngsters playing again against a Premier League side of the quality of Wigan," said the Palace boss.
"It was very pleasing because the players put a lot of work into it and got the rewards in the end."
Palace now face a home match against fellow Championship side Middlesbrough in round three.
