The Football Association is to investigate the coin-throwing incident which marred last night's Premier League meeting between Crystal Palace and Newcastle United.
Toon defender Fabricio Coloccini was struck in the face by the stray object as he celebrated Papiss Cisse's opening goal at Selhurst Park.
While disciplinary action will not be taken against Palace, the FA will help the club track down the supporter responsible with the aid of CCTV footage.
It is said that a lengthy ban will be handed to the perpetrator.
Speaking in the immediate aftermath of last night's 1-1 draw in South London, Newcastle caretaker manager John Carver claimed that Coloccini was lucky to avoid serious injury.
