Crystal Palace secure a well-deserved 1-0 win over Peterborough at Selhurst Park.

Crystal Palace beat Peterborough United 1-0 in a well-deserved victory at Selhurst Park on Saturday.

The first effort of the game came from Posh's skipper Grant McCann, but his drive from distance went wide of Julian Speroni's left-hand post. George Boyd then saw a goal-bound shot blocked by McCarthy before McCann sent the rebound wide of the target.

On 15 minutes, Wilfried Zaha fired over as Palace began to make a mark on the game.

Some fantastic work from Taylor and Barnett then created a glorious chance for Tommy Rowe, but he scuffed his shot wide from 12 yards out.

Boyd tested Speroni again with a low drive that the goalkeeper just about held on to. Barnett then beat three defenders before firing at goal with Speroni making an excellent save.

Palace wasted another good chance when Darren Ambrose fired over at the back post from a great ball by Zaha.

Paddy McCarthy squandered an opportunity for Palace on 38 minutes, putting his header wide of the target.

A mistake from Craig Alcock on 43 minutes allowed Jermaine Easter to get in, the striker pulled the ball back for Ambrose whose deflected effort hit the inside of the post and rolled along the line before Alcock cleared.

Both sides went in level at half time after a hard-fought first 45 minutes.

The second half saw Palace start the better of the two sides, with Zaha's pace and trickery causing all kinds of problems for Peterborough. The winger had two chances but fired both wide of the mark.

Tommy Rowe then missed a chance to give Peterborough the lead, firing wide of the post after some impressive link-up play with the strikers.

Palace continued to push forward and got the goal their play deserved when Jones dropped the ball at Jedinak's feet, who then hooked the ball into the net to make it 1-0.

The home side attacked at will and Murray, who came on for Easter on 70 minutes, was denied by Jones.

The game ended at 1-0, giving Palace all three points after a particularly impressive second-half display.
