Artem Fedetskyi has dedicated Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk's impressive Europa League semi-final victory over Napoli to the soldiers fighting to defend war-torn Ukraine.
Dnipro have been forced to play their games in Kiev due to the ongoing violence breaking out in the Eastern part of the country between Ukrainian troops and pro-Russian separatists.
Against the odds, the Warriors of Light managed to overcome Napoli 1-0 on Thursday evening to build on the 1-1 draw they secured in the first leg, setting up a meeting with current holders Sevilla in the Warsaw final.
"While I cannot believe what happened, personally, I have wanted this for a long time," FourFourTwo quotes Fedetskyi as saying. "I dreamed of the Ukrainian Cup and the final of the European Cup here.
"I am proud for the city, for the team, for our country. This victory is for our soldiers, who now defend us, our land. Praise them, praise our heroes."
Dnipro's previous best finish in European competition came back in 1985 when they were eliminated from the quarter-finals on the back of a 2-2 draw against Bordeaux.
