Sports Mole previews Tuesday's League One clash between Doncaster Rovers and Accrington Stanley, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sports Mole

Doncaster Rovers will continue their fight to escape the League One relegation zone with a home match against Accrington Stanley on Tuesday night.

The home side are currently 23rd in the table, six points from the safety of 20th position, while Accrington are 13th in the third tier, 12 points behind sixth-placed Wycombe Wanderers.

Match preview

Doncaster are in a serious fight to retain their status at this level of football, having only picked up 25 points from their 34 league matches this season, which has left them in 23rd spot in the table.

Saturday's 3-1 home loss to Sheffield Wednesday was their 23rd league defeat of the campaign and left them six points from the safety of 20th, while they have played two games more than AFC Wimbledon, who are the team directly above the relegation zone in League One.

Doncaster actually took the lead against Sheffield Wednesday, breaking the deadlock late in the first period through Daniel Gardner, but the visitors netted three times in the final 20 minutes to secure all three points, preventing the strugglers from securing back-to-back wins, having beaten Lincoln City on February 15.

The Reds, who finished 14th in League One last term, have two huge league games against Accrington and AFC Wimbledon to end the month, and victories in both would certainly give them a fighting chance.

Gary McSheffrey's side have the worst home record in the league this season, though, picking up just 15 points from 17 matches, suffering 10 defeats in the process.

Accrington, meanwhile, will enter the contest off the back of a 2-0 defeat at Cambridge on Saturday, with the hosts scoring twice in the second half at Abbey Stadium to secure all three points.

The loss has left John Coleman's side in 13th spot in the table, boasting 43 points from their 32 matches; they are 12 points off the top six and 13 points above the relegation zone, so there is not an awful lot of pressure on them to pick up positive results at the moment, as a push towards the playoffs is unlikely.

Stanley were impressive in back-to-back wins over Oxford United and Crewe Alexandra earlier this month, though, and they have only lost three of their last 11 matches in League One.

Coleman's team have struggled for consistency on the road this season, picking up just 12 points from 15 matches, recording just three wins in the process.

Accrington have won their last three League One games against Doncaster, though, including a 1-0 success in the reverse match earlier this season, with an own goal from Pontus Dahlberg deciding the contest.

Team News

Doncaster boss McSheffrey introduced Mipo Odubeko into his starting XI for the clash with Sheffield Wednesday, and it would not be a surprise to see the forward retain his spot in the side here.

There will have to be a change in the middle of the park, though, as Thomas Rowe was forced off through injury in the 23rd minute of Saturday's contest, so Josh Martin could come into the XI.

The strugglers are again likely to line up in a 3-5-2 formation, with Odubeko being joined in the final third of the field by Reo Griffiths.

As for Accrington, Ross Sykes will be available to return after serving a suspension, but Yeboah Amankwah could again be absent through injury.

Harvey Rodgers, Seamus Conneely and Jay Rich-Baghuelou all came into the side against Cambridge, but the latter will drop out to allow Sykes to return to the defence.

Head coach Coleman could decide to keep faith with a back three for the trip to Doncaster, with Colby Bishop and Sean McConville starting as the front two for the visitors.

Doncaster Rovers possible starting lineup:
Mitchell; Younger, Williams, Olowu; Knoyle, Smith, Gardner, Martin, Jackson; Odubeko, Griffiths

Accrington Stanley possible starting lineup:
Savin; Sykes, Nottingham, Rodgers; Clark, Leigh, Butcher, Conneely, Hamilton; McConville, Bishop

We say: Doncaster Rovers 1-1 Accrington Stanley

Doncaster can certainly take positives from their performance against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, and it should be a tight game in South Yorkshire on Tuesday evening. Accrington have struggled for wins on their travels this season, meanwhile, and we are expecting the two sides to play out a low-scoring draw here.
