Dundee United ran out comfortable 3-0 winners over neighbours Dundee but missed out on a Europa League spot after St Johnstone were also victorious in the Scottish Premiership this afternoon.
The home side got their final match of the season off to the perfect start when Nadir Ciftci capitalised on a slip by Dundee goalkeeper Kyle Letheren to pass the ball into an empty net.
United were then awarded a penalty when Ciftci was brought down in the box, with the striker picking himself up to grab his second of the match.
Despite having much of the ball, Dundee could not reduce the deficit before half time.
After the break, United extended their lead when Blair Spittal received a through ball from John Rankin before running through to slot home past Letheren.
United comfortably saw out the remainder of the match, and finished fifth in the table overall, 11 points clear of Dundee.
