Ecuador kept their chances of reaching the second round of the World Cup alive with a 2-1 win over Honduras on Friday night.

Here, Sports Mole considers the performances of all the players to see who impressed in this important match in Curitiba.

Goal

Noel Valladares: Did not have much chance with either of Ecuador's goals, and overall did what he needed to reasonably well. Certainly not at fault for the defeat. (7/10)

Defence

Emilio Izaguirre: Was all over the place in the first half with his tackling, and was found out positionally on a few occasions. His passing was good, however, and was often the player starting counter-attacks. (5/10)

Maynor Figueroa: The only Honduras centre-back to come away with much credit. He made a lot of good interceptions, particularly in the first half, although might have given away a penalty for a rash tackle on Felipe Caidedo. (7/10)

Victor Bernardez: Far too keen to go in for the tackle, and was probably the player to give away the most fouls for either side. (5/10)

Brayan Beckeles: Another player who was a bit rash with his tackling, and also lost Valencia at the far post for Ecuador's equaliser. Not a good day. (4/10)

Midfield

Oscar Garcia: Drifted in and out of the game and did not put in enough crosses, but equally did not do much wrong on a flank that was not utilised very frequently. (5/10)

Roger Espinoza: Was one of the few Hondurans to really try to get things going. Nothing came off for him, but his effort is worthy of a decent rating. (7/10)

Luis Garrido: Was not involved very often, owing to his side's tactics, so went by fairly anonymously until being substituted. (5/10)

Jorge Claros: Was the busier of the two central midfielders. Gave the ball away on a few occasions, but was one of the better players for his side in terms of tackling. Broke up a couple of dangerous attacks. (6/10)

Attack

Carlo Costly: Was by far the most involved player for his team and took his goal very well indeed. He made life hard for the Ecuador centre-backs. (8/10)

Jerry Bengtson: Was guilty of getting a little frustrated and therefore rash at times when on the ball. Was by no means bad, but was certainly outshone by his strike partner Costly. (6/10)

Substitutes

Juan Carlos Garcia: Came on at the break for Izaguirre and did a decent enough job on A Valencia. Did not get forward very much, however, even when Honduras were chasing the game. (6/10)

Mario Martinez: Was on for 20 minutes, but it was enough time for him to have an impact. It was no coincidence that Honduras's passing improved when he came on, and was one of their better players. (7/10)

ECUADOR

Goal

Alexander Dominguez: A really commanding performance. He could do nothing about the opening goal, but claimed almost every cross into the box and was very solid dealing with shots from range. (8/10)

Defence

Juan Carlos Paredes: Took a while to get forward in the game, but when he did he was a decent outlet for his side. It was his attempted shot that led to Enner Valencia's equaliser. (7/10)

Jorge Guagua: Was one of his side's weak links. Entirely at fault for allowing Carlo Costly in for the opening goal, and never really recovered after that. (5/10)

Frickson Erazo: Was shaky on a few crosses into the box but on the whole performed better than his centre-back partner, although it was not a towering display by any means. (6/10)

Walter Ayovi: Was not as impressive at the back as he was against Switzerland, but once again proved just how important he is with an almost identical delivery for Valencia's winner that he put in against Switzerland. (7/10)

Midfield

Antonio Valencia: Did better than against Switzerland, but was kept under wraps fairly comfortably until the second half when he got into the game slightly more. Overall he was disappointing, however. (6/10)

Christian Noboa: Was the better of the two central midfielders, with better passing and good reading of the game. Did not dominate as he might have wanted to against a weak Honduras midfield. (7/10)

Oswaldo Minda: More quiet than his midfield partner and was the more defensive of the two. Would like to have seen a bit more forward passing from him. (6/10)

Jefferson Montero: Tried hard but once again the hot prospect struggled with being marked out of the game. Had a couple of chances to run in the second half, but was disappointing with his end product. (6/10)

Attack

Enner Valencia: Comfortably the best player on the park and, although he did not have a hatful of chances, took his goals really well and proved the difference in a very close match. (9/10)

Felipe Caicedo: Plenty of hustle and bustle, but did not do a lot with the ball at feet. Proved a good foil for his strike partner, however, so still played an important role. (7/10)

Substitutes

Edison Mendez: The old man of the team did not have a lot of time to make an impact, but equally did not do anything wrong in his time on the pitch. (6/10)

Carlos Gruezo: Was the only player left out of the lineup from the Switzerland game, and with only seven minutes on the field did not have the chance to work himself back into the XI. (5/10)
