Gaizka Garitano has announced that he intends to step down as manager of Eibar after their relegation from La Liga was confirmed this evening.
Despite beating Cordoba 3-0 thanks to three first-half goals, Armeros were unable to beat the drop due to results elsewhere on the final day of the campaign.
Garitano, who has been in charge of Eibar for three years, now plans to allow someone else to take over at Ipurua.
"The cycle is finished," he is quoted as saying by AS. "The coach of a relegated team has no authority to stay. I was very excited to take Eibar to the Primera but I haven't met our objective and I have to go."
Eibar spent just one season in La Liga, having been promoted from the Segunda Division 12 months ago.
