A late strike from Zlatko Junuzovic has helped Werder Bremen spoil Eintracht Braunschweig's first Bundesliga match for 28 years.
Both sides struggled to build momentum in a frenetic first half, with Bremen striker Nils Petersen going closest to breaking the deadlock with a header that drifted just wide.
Bremen sent on Eljero Elia in search of inspiration after the break, while at the other end Simeon Jackson had a hopeful penalty appeal turned away by the referee.
Braunschweig looked increasingly dangerous from set pieces as the match progressed, with defender Ermin Bicakcic volleying over from close range.
Eight minutes from time the visitors finally found the opening goal through Junuzovic, who raced onto a long pass unopposed before finding the corner with a confident finish.
There was still time for Braunschweig to go within inches of an equaliser at the other end, but Jan Hochscheidt saw effort cleared off the line as Bremen held firm to claim all three points.
