James Ward-Prowse has claimed that the 1-0 victory over USA Under-23s was a promising start for the new-look England Under-21s.
Debutant James Wilson netted the winner as Gareth Southgate's side emerged victorious on their first outing since a disastrous European Under-21 Championship campaign, and Southampton midfielder Ward-Prowse was impressed by the performance.
"It's very pleasing," the captain told the Football Association's website. "It's always very difficult when a new squad comes together and you only have a few days to achieve the bond.
"But you could see the quality tonight, we played well and although we've only been together for a few days, you could see how well we worked together."
Southgate's side start the new Euro qualifying campaign against Norway on Monday.
