England have headed into half time level with Switzerland following a goalless 45 minutes in their Euro 2016 qualifier, despite the visitors creating a number of chances to break the deadlock this evening.
Wayne Rooney had a chance to open the scoring 10 minutes into the tie after Joe Hart launched the ball deep after saving a free kick, but the captain took too long to get his shot away, allowing the Swiss side to clear the danger.
Raheem Sterling tried to set up another opportunity for the striker shortly after, but the Liverpool midfielder's pass bobbled, giving Yann Sommer a comfortable save.
Switzerland appealed for a penalty when Haris Seferovic tangled with Phil Jones on the edge of the penalty area while looking to create the home side's first real chance of the match, but the referee dismissed their shouts.
England continued to create the better of the chances as Danny Welbeck sprinted down the wing before crossing, with Rooney and Sterling waiting in the box, but the latter could not quite reach the pass for what would have been a simple tap-in.
Sommer had to be alert in the closing moments of the half as Rooney and Jones both tried to force a goal before the break, but the Swiss keeper did just enough to keep the teams level.
