Jamie Carragher has said that Danny Welbeck is better suited to playing in England's current set-up than Daniel Sturridge.
Sturridge suffered an injury in the build-up to the September internationals, paving the way for Welbeck to make his mark on the team.
The Arsenal striker went on to score both goals in the 2-0 win over Switzerland before also netting in the 5-0 victory over San Marino in October, and when asked who holds the edge as things stand, Carragher opted for Welbeck.
"Well I think certainly Welbeck now," he told talkSPORT.
"I think he may have just edged ahead of Sturridge in terms of what he has done for England, you think of that game in Switzerland."
Sturridge has missed out on the England squad for the forthcoming Euro 2016 qualifier against Slovenia and the friendly in Scotland.
