Jermaine Jenas: 'Wayne Rooney should lead England attack at Euro 2016'

Former England international Jermaine Jenas weighs in on the debate about who should lead the England attack.

Former England midfielder Jermaine Jenas has called on Three Lions boss Roy Hodgson to have Wayne Rooney lead his attack at Euro 2016.

Following the national team's 3-2 victory in Germany last weekend, there have been suggestions that the Manchester United forward should be placed behind Harry Kane, Jamie Vardy, Danny Welbeck and Daniel Sturridge in the pecking order.

However, Jenas insists that England should hand Rooney a start in their opening match at this summer's finals.

"I would 100% take Wayne Rooney to Euro 2016 and I think start him in the first game," he told BBC Sport.

"Roy Hodgson will give him a game, see how it works but in the knowledge that Harry Kane and Jamie Vardy are snapping at his heels.

"I don't think it's fair to say Rooney slows down England too much - you also need brains and Wayne has shown he has that in international football over the years."

England take on the Netherlands in a friendly international this evening. Follow the match live with Sports Mole's text commentary here.
