Aston Villa youngster Jack Grealish is being made to wait even longer to be granted clearance from FIFA to play for England.
Five weeks ago, the 20-year-old committed his international future to the Three Lions after representing the Republic of Ireland at youth levels.
However, FIFA has revealed that clearance has not yet been given, meaning that Grealish is unlikely to receive his first England call-up for next week's friendlies.
"We can confirm having been contacted by the Football Association with a request for change of association of the player Jack Grealish," a FIFA spokesperson told The AP.
"The matter is pending and being investigated by our services and as a result, we are not in a position to comment on it any further nor to give an estimation as to the relevant timeline."
England manager Roy Hodgson will confirm his squad to face friendlies against Spain and France on Thursday afternoon.
