Darren Moore: 'This is the start for Saido Berahino'

West Bromwich Albion youth coach Darren Moore believes that Saido Berahino has earned his place in the England squad.

West Bromwich Albion youth coach Darren Moore has expressed his belief that international recognition for Saido Berahino would be a great testament to his ability.

The striker could become the first Baggies outfield player to represent England since 1984 if he plays in Tuesday night's friendly against Scotland at Celtic Park.

Moore has said that Berahino has set an example for other young players to follow.

"The beautiful thing about him is he is still a work in progress. Look where he is now but he will feel he is still not the finished article – which is great," Moore told the Express & Star.

"He will continue to work and to get full recognition for the national team is great work and testament to where he is as an individual. We at the club feel very, very proud, he should feel very, very proud – but again this is only the tip of the iceberg in terms of where he wants to go.

"He wants to continue scoring goals for West Bromwich Albion and doing that it has put him in the frame for the national team. Fair play to him he has continued scoring his goals and Roy Hodgson has given him the call up he deserves."

Berahino has scored eight goals in 14 appearances for West Brom so far this season.
