England's Roy Hodgson: 'We need a result'

England manager Roy Hodgson believes that his side need a result in tomorrow's World Cup qualifier against Ukraine.

England manager Roy Hodgson has claimed that his side "need a result" when they take on Ukraine in their World Cup qualifying match tomorrow.

The Three Lions currently sit top of Group H, level on points with second-placed Montenegro and one point above Ukraine, who would displace them in first place with a win tomorrow.

With the qualification campaign nearing an end, Hodgson knows that a win for either side would put them in control of their own destiny and hints that he would adopt an attacking philosophy for the match.

"These are two good teams who are in form and are capable of winning the group so it's a bit of a cup final and when you play in a cup final you don't necessarily win games by being cautious," Hodgson told reporters.

"Sometimes you win it by going on to the front foot and trying to make certain you score more goals than the opposition so we are aware of those things.

"We don't have any qualms about what we have to do and the task in front of us. What we need to do is get a result and the players are confident that they can put on a good performance."

Meanwhile, Hodgson has confirmed that Frank Lampard will start tomorrow's match, earning his 100th international cap in the process.
