Adam Johnson has withdrawn from England's squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Moldova and Ukraine with a thigh strain.
The Sunderland winger, who joined the Black Cats from Manchester City towards the end of the summer transfer window, underwent a scan on Wednesday after picking up an injury during training.
It was revealed that he had suffered minor damage to his thigh muscle and would not be fit for the Three Lions' double header on Friday and Tuesday.
Johnson has returned to Sunderland for treatment, while it is unclear as to whether manager Roy Hodgson will call up a replacement before England travel to Moldova tomorrow.
