Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew believes that Wayne Rooney is being played in the wrong position under England boss Roy Hodgson.
The Manchester United forward faced criticism for his performance against Italy after he started out on the left in Saturday's 2-1 defeat in Manaus.
"I'm afraid that position doesn't suit Wayne, who was then pushed out wide on the right for a spell in the second half," The Chronicle quotes Pardew as saying.
"Now Roy Hodgson must make a decision - either play him in his proper number 10 role just behind Daniel Sturridge or leave him out."
England will take on Uruguay in their second Group D match on Thursday.
