England striker Wayne Rooney insists that he has no intention of retiring from international football despite another disappointing World Cup showing.

Wayne Rooney has insisted that he has no intention of retiring from international football following England's early World Cup exit, saying that he is "proud" to represent his country.

The Three Lions, who have lost their opening two games of the tournament, were knocked out of FIFA's showpiece event yesterday following Costa Rica's shock 1-0 victory against Italy.

Rooney found the net in England's 2-1 defeat at the hands of Uruguay to score his first World Cup goal, but many have criticised the striker for his lack of impact on the big stage.

"I feel I've still got a lot of years ahead of me for England," the 28-year-old told talkSPORT. "I'm not the kind of player to even consider not playing for England, I am really proud to play for my country.

"I never want to pull out of squads, I always turn up and play for England when I am called upon.I have no desire whatsoever to stop doing that unless I am told to. I will play for England until I am not selected.

"I feel I've got another four or six years left, definitely."

England face Costa Rica in their final group game on Tuesday evening.
