Captain Wayne Rooney has said that Gareth Southgate has done "a really good job" during his first three games as England manager.
Southgate is reportedly in line to be named Three Lions boss on a permanent basis after guiding his team to a 3-0 victory over Scotland on Friday night, and Rooney has admitted that he has put himself in "pole position" after taking seven points from three games in their World Cup qualifying group.
The 31-year-old told Sky Sports News: "Southgate has done brilliant with the U21s and he's come in and done a really good job.
"He's got two wins from three and a good point from the last game in Slovenia. It's down to the FA now and he's put himself in pole position and I'm sure the right decision will be made."
England are next in action when they host Spain on Tuesday night.
