Former England international Alan Shearer has claimed that defender Glen Johnson was at fault for Uruguay's first goal during the Three Lions' 2-1 defeat this evening.
The ex-Newcastle United striker said that the Liverpool man should have been on hand to deal with the cross that Luis Suarez headed into the net.
"Luis Suarez is remarkable but he's a top-class player. You give players of his calibre chances at this level, they'll take them," he told BBC Sport.
"Teams are successful because their top stars perform. Glen Johnson had to stop the cross for the first goal.
"Positionally it was all wrong and there was a lack of communication. If that goal was to happen on a Sunday morning the manager would be disappointed but it wasn't a bad finish again."
The defeat leaves England on the brink of elimination from the tournament, needing Italy to win their two remaining games to stand a chance of making it to the last 16.
