Espanyol have announced that Javier Aguirre has been appointed as the new manager of the club until the end of the season.
Following a run of just two wins from 13 games, the Catalan side sacked Mauricio Pochettino after defeat to Getafe left them bottom of the league.
The Mexican is due to be officially unveiled at a press conference on Thursday, meaning his first match in charge will be against Granada on Sunday.
"Javier Aguirre and Espanyol have reached an agreement for the Mexican to be the coach of the club until the end of the season," read a statement on the club's website.
"Aguirre arrives accompanied by Alfredo Tena as assistant coach and Juan Iribarren as physio, who have accompanied him on all his past experiences as a coach."
Espanyol face Sevilla in the Copa del Rey tonight.
