Everton midfielder Ross Barkley talks up the importance of ending the club's 21-year trophy drought by winning the FA Cup this season.

Everton midfielder Ross Barkley has admitted that it would "mean everything" to him to help his side win the FA Cup this season.

The 22-year-old scored the opening goal in a 2-0 win for the Toffees at Bournemouth this evening to send them into the quarter-finals, with Romelu Lukaku making the game safe with just under 15 minutes remaining.

Barkley was quick to praise the defensive performance of his side for the victory, and talked up the importance of going all the way in the FA Cup with little left to play for in the Premier League this term.

"At half time we had a good conversation about how we should have done better, and to use the ball in the second half. We did that and we exploited our chances," Barkley told BBC Sport.

"It was a superb performance defensively and we got the goals in the second half - [Lukaku] was excellent up top.

"It would mean everything to me and everything to those fans [to win the FA Cup]. We got the win and now we're just focusing on the quarter-final and kicking on in the tournament."

Everton have not won a major trophy since they last lifted the FA Cup in 1995.
