Half-Time Report: Cardiff City goalkeeper David Marshall keeping Everton at bay

David Marshall produces several fine first-half saves to help Cardiff City keep Everton at bay during the first 45 minutes of their match at Goodison Park.

Cardiff goalkeeper David Marshall produced several impressive saves to prevent Everton taking a half-time lead in their Premier League match at Goodison Park.

The Scotland international denied Kevin Mirallas early on when the Belgian winger cut back onto his left foot to curl a shot which was parried around the post.

Gerard Deulofeu is playing on the opposite flank to Mirallas and he too tested Marshall from a promising position after stubborn Cardiff defending had already thwarted a succession of half-chances.

The Bluebirds stopper saved his best until last when Romelu Lukaku travelled with the ball before bending a 20-yard shot towards the top corner, which Marshall tipped over with his fingertips.

Cardiff had chances of their own, though, with lone striker Frazier Campbell their main threat, but he was prevented from getting a shot away on the turn when Leighton Baines cleared from four yards out.

He did have a better sight of goal later in the half when he was sent through one on one, but, under pressure from John Stones, the former Manchester United striker hit straight at Tim Howard.
