Sam Allardyce: 'Everton must become more boring'

Sam Allardyce intends to be "a bit less adventurous" with his team selection following Everton's heavy defeat to Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley Stadium.

Everton manager Sam Allardyce has suggested that he will go back to basics following his side's 4-0 loss against Tottenham Hotspur.

The Toffees suffered a fourth defeat in a row on Saturday evening, conceding once in the first half and three more times in a one-sided second half.

Allardyce did not hold back after the match when criticising his 'unprofessional' players, and the ex-England boss believes that he must now make his side "a bit more boring" if they are to return to winning ways.

"I was going to shore it up like Moyesy (West Ham manager David Moyes) did because I watched [their 1-1 draw at Wembley] and thought what a great job they had done on Tottenham defensively," he told reporters.

"But then again I reverted back to our Liverpool performance... If you can play like that at Liverpool and just at the death get beat, surely you can come here to Tottenham and deliver the same performance and maybe get a result.

"Maybe I have a bit of responsibility by playing too much attack-minded players and not as many defensive-minded players. I should have got back to being a bit more boring and a bit less adventurous."

Ninth-placed Everton, who failed to manage a single shot on target at Wembley Stadium, return to action next week with a home match against strugglers West Bromwich Albion.
