Ronald Koeman: 'Everton should have been given two penalties'

Ronald Koeman falls short of criticising the officials, but insists that Everton should have been awarded two penalties - only one of which was given - against Brighton.

Everton manager Ronald Koeman has insisted that his side were hard done by against Brighton & Hove Albion as they deserved to be awarded two penalty kicks.

The Toffees just about avoided a fifth defeat in six Premier League games thanks to a last-gasp spot kick from Wayne Rooney at the Amex Stadium to earn a 1-1 draw.

Under-fire Koeman feels that Everton were unlucky not to have had a pen earlier in the match, however, as Pascal Gross appeared to pull back on Gylfi Sigurdsson's shirt inside the box.

"It's a penalty," he told Sky Sports News. "If the referee sees the clip after the game he will see that's a penalty. He can't see it and we can't complain about the referee today. He did really well, but yes, it was an earlier situation of penalty."

Everton remain winless in their past 12 top-flight away outings - their longest-such run since going 13 without victory in March 2002.
