David Moyes: 'Victor Anichebe is an important player'

Everton manager David Moyes believes that striker Victor Anichebe is an important part of his side at Goodison Park.

Everton manager David Moyes has expressed his belief that striker Victor Anichebe is an important option for his side to have.

Anichebe made his return from a two-month absence to score in Everton's 2-1 win over West Ham United on Saturday, his fourth goal of the season in just nine appearances.

The 24-year-old has struggled with injuries throughout his Everton career, but Moyes is hopeful that he can stay fit long enough to prove how important he is to the side.

"Victor has played very well. He is an important player for us and a lot people underestimate what he can do for us," said Moyes.

"Not having him available means we have not been able to change many things in the attacking areas. Not having (Kevin) Mirallas available for the last couple of months at different times has meant we have been limited in forward areas and probably not won as many games as we should have.

"We want to keep him (Anichebe) fit and him to have a bit of self-confidence and I am sure that goal will do that for him."

Everton currently sit fifth in the Premier League table, only out of the top four on goal difference.
