Leon Osman has admitted that it was important for Everton to find their form on the road following the victory over Newcastle United on Tuesday.
A 3-0 win at St James' Park was Everton's first success away from home this season, but Osman believes that the club should still be considered outsiders for a spot in the Champions League.
"We've had back-to-back wins before tonight and it was important that we started to pick up points away from home to get us in the direction we're heading for," the midfielder told Sky Sports News.
"We've got to play some of the big teams yet and we're vying for it ourselves, we're the outsiders at the minute but we'll keep ticking along."
Everton are currently fifth, six points behind Arsenal with a game in hand.
