Gylfi Sigurdsson stunner secures Everton victory at Leicester

Toffees midfielder Sigurdsson has now scored 50 Premier League goals.

Gylfi Sigurdsson's stunner earned Everton a deserved 2-1 win at 10-man Leicester.

The midfielder crashed in his fifth goal of the season from 25 yards as the Toffees picked up their second successive Premier League victory.

Richarlison opened the scoring at the King Power Stadium only for Ricardo Pereira to level just before half-time.

Everton took control after Wes Morgan's second-half dismissal, which was earned for collecting two yellow cards after fouls on Richarlison.

Claude Puel's Leicester were poor with James Maddison, celebrating an England call-up, rarely in the game and they were forced to play catch up after seven minutes.

Bernard skipped past two flimsy challenges from Pereira and Daniel Amartey and, when Kasper Schmeichel could only touch on his cross, Richarlison volleyed in from six yards.

Leicester's response was muted as Kurt Zouma and Michael Keane handled the aerial threat with minimum fuss with Jamie Vardy starved of service.

Everton held a degree of control, mainly due to the Foxes' sloppiness, and Schmeichel turned Theo Walcott's drive over and then gathered Sigurdsson's effort.

Walcott also threatened when he was clipped by Harry Maguire as he raced towards goal but his appeals were ignored.

Leicester had been poor but should have levelled after 33 minutes when Vardy raced onto a long clearance ahead of Keane.

The striker wriggled goalside but with just Jordan Pickford to beat prodded wide under pressure from the defender.

It was a let-off for Everton but they were left reeling when Leicester levelled five minutes before the break.

Sigurdsson's drive had deflected wide for a corner but the Toffees were caught on the break by Kelechi Iheanacho and Pereira.

The pair swapped passes inside the Leicester half and Pereira burst down the right to cut inside, easily beat the flailing Jonjoe Kenny and fired past Pickford.

Leicester emerged for the second half with added gusto and Ben Chilwell shot wide.

But the tables turned on 63 minutes when Morgan, already on a yellow card for tugging back Richarlison in the first half, collected his second booking after clattering the Brazil international from behind.

It was the captain's second red card of the season.

Schmeichel saved from Lucas Digne and Tom Davies but, after a period of Everton dominance, he had no chance with Sigurdsson's winner 13 minutes from time.

The midfielder collected Idrissa Gueye's pass and a quick turn away from Maddison allowed him to take a touch and unleash an unstoppable effort from 25 yards which flew into the top corner.

Zouma almost added a third when he headed over with six minutes left and Amartey wasted a chance to snatch an injury-time equaliser when he nodded wide.
