Roberto Martinez 'completely understands' fans' protests

Roberto Martinez 'understands' why Everton supporters staged a protest in their home meeting with Bournemouth, following a disappointing run of results.

Everton manager Roberto Martinez has insisted that he is fully aware of why supporters have grown frustrated this season, but is still hopeful of remaining in charge of the club beyond the summer.

The Spaniard has come under increasing fire this term due to an underwhelming Premier League campaign, while the Toffees' hopes of going all the way in the FA Cup ended in a cruel manner last weekend.

Saturday afternoon's home meeting with Bournemouth, which Everton won 2-1 thanks to goals from Tom Cleverley and Leighton Baines, provided a platform for disgruntled fans to step up their protests.

Martinez claims that he has no issue with those venting their anger, having seen his side lose eight times at Goodison Park this season with one home game left to play - their worst ever league return on Merseyside.

"Football is about emotions and passion, and Everton is our life, so I understand [protests] completely," he is quoted as saying by talkSPORT.

"I wouldn't expect any fan to be happy after eight defeats at home, but our focus, drive and determination is to correct that and learn from our mistakes.

"We are in a stronger position now by having those mistakes and those experiences which have been difficult. But now is about getting as many points as we can and bringing the winning feeling for the fans."

Everton are 11th in the table, three points off the top half with three games to go.
