Everton defender Leighton Baines has insisted that the special spirit at Goodison Park helps attract and keep players at the club.
Baines was linked with Manchester United for much of the summer, but the England international believes that the current Toffees squad is on the verge of achieving something special this season.
He told the Daily Star: "We think there is a certain charm to Everton and that inspires the loyalty. This is probably the first summer we haven't lost a big player.
"There is a core group of players who do know what the club is all about and in the last couple of transfer windows the manager has added real quality with the likes of Darron Gibson and Nikica Jelavic.
"There's competition now and I wouldn't say it is beyond us to challenge for the top four."
The 27-year-old is now in his sixth season with the Toffees, after joining from Wigan Athletic in July 2007.
