Everton have reportedly identified Dynamo Moscow defender Alexander Buttner as the ideal candidate to fill the void created by the injury to Leighton Baines.
It was confirmed on Wednesday night that Baines is facing a three-month spell on the sidelines after ankle surgery, which leaves Roberto Martinez with youngster Brendan Galloway and Bryan Oviedo as his options on the left side of defence.
Despite the backup offered by the pair, the Daily Mail claims that former Manchester United full-back Buttner is on a list of potential targets as the Toffees consider entering the market.
Any move for the Dutchman is likely to be a loan deal as Martinez looks to add depth to his squad after starting the campaign with a 2-2 draw against Watford last weekend.
Buttner joined Dynamo on a three-year deal for an initial £4.4m last summer.
