New Everton manager Marco Silva reportedly tells Wayne Rooney that he has no future at the club, paving the way for the 32-year-old to join DC United.

New Everton manager Marco Silva has reportedly told Wayne Rooney that he has no future at the club.

Rooney has been heavily linked with a move to MLS side DC United this summer, but delayed talks to see whether he was still in Everton's plans following the sacking of Sam Allardyce.

However, The Mirror reports that Silva has told Rooney that he is free to leave Goodison Park, with the 32-year-old now expected to finalise a three-year deal with DC United.

Rooney travelled to Belfast last week to secure a visa for his proposed move to the United States, and he has now been given the final confirmation he needed to complete the switch.

The former England and Manchester United captain wanted to stay on Merseyside with his boyhood club, but is now resigned to ending his Everton and Premier League career this summer.

The report goes on to say that Silva has identified Norwich City youngster James Maddison as a possible replacement for Rooney, with the 21-year-old having scored 15 goals and created eight more in the Championship last season.

Maddison is on the radar of a number of other clubs, though, and is expected to cost at least £25m to prise away from Carrow Road.
